Fishing Techniques I Practice in My Tours
For me, fishing is not just the process of catching fish. It is a combination of proper technique, modern tackle, technology, effective fish-finding electronics, respect for natural resources, strict compliance with catch limits and regulations, and constant monitoring of weather forecasts to ensure crew safety on board.
Primarily, I practice offshore jigging techniques combined with a modern fish finder. I also focus on casting, as it delivers the most unforgettable emotions when strikes happen right before your eyes. During passages, trolling gear is used too.
These techniques form the foundation of my weekly tropical catamaran fishing tours. On one-day boat trips in Spain, live bait fishing and squid and cuttlefish fishing are also added.
Catch & Release — the Core Principle of My Fishing Tours
I deliberately build all programs around responsible fishing principles:
the trophy is about emotion, not kilograms
fish are carefully fought and released
tackle and lures that minimize injury are used
large and rare species receive special treatment
Where permitted and appropriate, reasonable retention of catch is possible. However, key trophy species are always released.
Fishing Tour Formats I Organize
One-Day Boat Fishing Trips in Spain
A dynamic format for active anglers.
Locations:
This format is ideal if you want to:
-
try sea fishing
-
catch powerful fish
-
experience strong emotions in just one day
Weekly Tropical Catamaran Tours
This is expedition-style fishing with accommodation on comfortable catamarans.
Main destinations:
Additional locations:
-
Oman
-
Thailand
-
Sri Lanka
-
Cape Verde Islands
-
Canary Islands
Here, fishing is part of a greater journey where the trophy is an emotional moment, not prey.
Fishing Techniques Used in the Mediterranean
Spanish waters are ideal for technical, precision fishing.
Slow Pitch Jigging
This is my core technique in the Mediterranean Sea.
I use a modern fish finder with a CHIRP transducer to map bottom structure, locate fish concentrations, and detect underwater anomalies. Lures include soft jigs, metal jigs, inchiku, and tai rubber.
Target species — dentex, amberjack, grouper, red porgy, John Dory.
These fish are valuable predators within the ecosystem, therefore within my tours they are released back into the sea.
Seasonal Surface Casting
When predators actively feed near the surface, the most spectacular part of fishing begins.
Main trophies:
-
Atlantic bluefin tuna — up to 200 kg
-
little tunny (bonito) up to 12 kg
-
mahi-mahi (dorado)
-
leerfish
Casting fishing means:
-
visual surface attacks
-
powerful strikes with screaming drag and line peeling off for dozens of meters
-
pure adrenaline
And of course, careful catch & release after a trophy photo session.
Coastal and Shore Fishing
A separate direction is inshore fishing.
Target species:
-
leerfish
-
horse mackerel
-
bluefish
-
European seabass
An excellent format for understanding fish behavior and mastering diverse techniques.
Squid and Cuttlefish Fishing
The Valencian coast is particularly rich in cuttlefish. Upon request, the crew can engage in targeting them. This type of fishing does not require special knowledge or advanced techniques and is especially interesting when children are on board.
Giant Atlantic Bluefin Tuna — Brumeo Method
One of the most serious and responsible forms of sea fishing.
The Brumeo method includes:
-
chumming
-
waiting
-
heavy tackle work
-
precise monitoring via fish finder
The giant Atlantic bluefin tuna is an icon of offshore fishing, and within my tours:
-
the fight is conducted with maximum care
-
all fish are released
-
seasonal and legal regulations are strictly observed
This is a true battle and a tremendous experience — without harming the sea.
Tropical Fishing
Slow and Fast Jigging in the Tropics
Target species:
-
dogtooth tuna
-
amberjack
-
kingfish
-
trevallies (including GT)
-
grouper

Casting with Poppers and Stickbaits
The most spectacular strikes happen here.
Main trophies:
-
GT (giant trevally)
-
tuna
-
dorado
-
barracuda
-
queenfish
-

-
cubera snapper
Explosive surface attacks, powerful runs — extreme adrenaline guaranteed!
Fishing with Comfortable Accommodation on Catamarans

stability and safety
-
comfortable onboard living
-
full board — allowing you to fully focus on fishing for an entire week
-
opportunity to rest between fishing sessions
An ideal format for conscious trophy fishing.
Safety-related matters are described in a separate article.
