FISHING IN VALENCIA

DESCRIPTION

The Valencian Community offers a diverse fishing environment with its own regional specifics.

Along the coastline of Valencia, the shore consists mainly of long sandy beaches with relatively shallow waters. To reach depths of around 60 meters, you may need to travel up to 6 km offshore. Because of this, fishing here has its own particular character.

At depths starting from 30 meters, you can target dentex, one of the most desirable trophies for slow jigging enthusiasts.

Near the small coastal town of Dénia, deep waters approach much closer to shore. As a result, fish diversity is greater and access to productive spots is easier. In addition to dentex and grouper, you can also find amberjack here — a powerful fish that delivers unforgettable fights.

In the river mouths throughout the region, bluefish are active. The coastline stretches for approximately 170 km and is a well-known zone for leerfish (called palometón in Spanish). Local sport anglers often compare this species to the legendary tropical GT — the giant trevally — for its strength and aggressive strikes.

During the summer season, large numbers of pelagic predators arrive across the Mediterranean waters of Spain. These include tuna, mahi-mahi, and smaller tunas such as bonito and little tunny.

FISHING TECHNIQUES

​

The primary method is vertical jigging using soft plastics and metal jigs.

Depending on conditions, we also use:

• bottom fishing with natural bait

• casting with wobblers, poppers, stickbaits, and metal jigs

• trolling when appropriate

• live bait fishing for very large tuna, including chumming with cut bait

The technique is always selected based on season, weather, and target species.
